Doggie Home Designs

Its all about doggies! Tired of having your dog esstentials displayed all throughout your home? Well here are a few fun ideas to organize and make your doggie utilities more stylish around your home decor.

Cabinet Drawer for your Doggie Food & Water
bowls!

DIY:

If you dont have a custom drawer installed in the lower portion of your cabinetry, then here are some DIY ideas to get this look for you and your dog (s).

1) Purchase a large but short box (with a lid) and place your doggie water and food bowls inside. Leave the lid open for easy access and when your dog is finished, close the lid. Its not a built in piece, however, is hides the exposed bowls, which keeps it tidy and clean.
2) Build the box your self. Get a handy man to design and build a custom box that allows access for your dogs and access for insertion of the bowls. Sand it down, stain in and protect it with a sealant!

Built in Doggie Bed
DIY:

1) Create your own built in bed. Find an appropriate place within the house to build a doggie bed.
2) Create your own cushion for inside the doggie bed.
Some ideas to stuff for cusion with:
a) High Density Foam
b) Cotton Stuffing
c) Feathers
d) Polyester Stuffing
3) Make your own upholstery for the cushion.
4) Make your own pillows to surround the doggie bed.
Some things to thick about for upholstery:
a) Choose fabirc that is easy to clean, stain resistant and durable
b) Choose upholstery with colour, pattern, texture for aesthetic appeal to match your decor and to hide unwanted stains/dirt your dog may create on the fabric.

Mud Room/Laundry Room/Closet
shelves

DIY:

1) Buy some shelves, some baskets and/or hooks and hang them up where you usually put your doggie esstentials. If there is no room in that area on the walls, find another area in the home that is available, where it is appropriate to place your doggies esstentials.
Some rooms to think about are:
a) Mud Room
b) Laundry Room
c) Closet
2) Create your own custom shelves. Cut a piece of wood, sand it down and stain it. Buy support pieces for the shelf.

Way Cool Design - Crown Moulding & A Flat Screen

So I came across this neat idea on the internet and I thought that I would share it.

Flat screen tvs can look extremly tacky when hung on the wall, thou convenient and out of the way. They stick out like a sore thumb on the wall and sometimes have exposed wiring behind them. Not everyone can afford to do built cabinets with a built in flat screen tv, so I thought that this was a neat and inexspensive way to cover up the expose back side of the tv ...

Where to Purchase Crown Moulding:

Paint the crown moulding in any colour that follows your colour scheme for the room. Avoid dark colours that will draw too much attention to the moulding. You want to select a colour that contrasts slightly with the walls.

I would recommend painting the crown moulding before installation to avoid any damage to the TV.

Have fun!!

Way Cool Design: Milk Paint Product

This blog is about everything design. Including interesting products that relate to interior design trends. While searching through the internet, I came across this really cool product. Check it out.

Product: Milk Paint
What is it? Milk paint is a organic coloured substance that provides a distinctive "colour-wash"  finish to surfaces.
Pros
- Non VOC levels
- absorbs into surface, which makes it a durable paint
- never chips or peels
Cons
- slightly alkaline, it also naturally inhibits the growth of mould and milde, which requires a finishing product to prevent these growths

Design Trend
Its saturated colours and translucent finish is great for creating antique affects to refurbishing furniture, surfaces, etc.
